Sara Jane (Blume) Rowe

Sara J. Rowe, formerly of Smithsburg, MD left this life to join her husband, Paul Rowe, on April 13, 2018. Born in Hagerstown, September 29, 1921, she was the daughter of the late George R. Blume and Corinne Charles Blume. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul M. Rowe on November 14, 1993 and her sister Kathaleen F. Brondoli in 2002. Sara graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1939 and attended Columbia Business College in Hagerstown. Immediately after graduation she began her career for the Federal Government, first at the draft board and then with Social Security. Community affiliations included Trinity Lutheran Church in Smithsburg, the National Active and Retired Federal Employees, and the Sunshine Leisure Club of Smithsburg. Upon her retirement after 35 years of service with Social Security, Sara and Paul enjoyed many years of bus trips with the Leisure Club traveling throughout the US and Canada. Sara is survived by her niece, Karen B. Mowen and her husband, Gordon of Waynesboro, VA, a nephew, Michael P. Brondoli, and his wife BJ of Durham North Carolina. Other survivors include Karen's children, Sean and Samantha Mowen, and Michael's son, Matthew Brondoli. At Sara's request there will be no viewing or visitation. A graveside service will be held at the Smithsburg Cemetery at 11:30am on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. Pastor Cain of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Sara also made the request that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, PO Box 217, Smithsburg, MD 21783. Arrangements were made by J.L.
