Phyllis Elizabeth (Rowe) Smith passed away Wednesday, February 28 in her own home after a long illness. She was surrounded by her children. Phyllis was born February 2, 1941 to Donald R. Rowe and Rella C. (Mohn) Rowe of Waynesboro, PA. She was the 5th of 10 children. She lived most of her life in the Waynesboro area, including the last 36 years residing in Mont Alto. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard S. Smith, who passed away in 2012, as well as by 7 of her siblings. She is survived by two sisters, Alice Rowe of Quincy Home and Linda Haugh of Crofton, MD. She is also survived by 3 children: daughter Jeanette Biesecker and sons Robert Shearer and Timothy Shearer, all of Waynesboro, PA. Other family members surviving her are 3 grandchildren and a large number of nieces and nephews. Phyllis was a long-time member of the Waynesboro American Legion and the VFW. She enjoyed bowling with friends at Sunshine Lanes in Rouzerville. Phyllis chose not to have funeral services. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate her life will be announced privately.
