Ruth B. (Sherwood) Gaver-Wade

Ruth B. Gaver-Wade, 99, of Smithsburg, MD, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Homewood of Williamsport. Born Tuesday, January 14, 1919 in Accomack County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late John L. Sherwood and Alice L. (Bonneville) Sherwood. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Richard E. Gaver and her 2nd husband Clifton D. Wade. She was a graduate of Parksley Virginia High School, attended Hagerstown Junior College and received her teaching degree from Shippensburg University. Ruth was employed by the Washington County Board of Education for 23 years as a Pre-K Teacher. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Smithsburg and a past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #89. Ruth is survived by daughter-in-law, Jackie Gaver, three grandchildren, Melissa Clowser and husband Keith, Vince Gaver and husband Michael and Charles Gaver, Jr. and wife Krysta, three great grandchildren, Taylor Clowser, Keirstin Clowser and Levin Gaver, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons, R. Philip Gaver and Charles R. Gaver, Sr., three brothers and one sister. A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 2:00pm at Smithsburg Cemetery with Pastor Virgil Cain officiating.
