Carol Harbaugh Obituary

Carol Hannah Johnson Harbaugh, 86, of Cascade, MD, passed away on Tuesday January 2, 2020 at St. Joseph’s place in Emmitsburg Maryland. Born February 22, 1933 in Boston, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late John R. Johnson and Katherine F. (Noonan) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Dale N. Harbaugh who passed away on January 17, 2004. They were married August 18, 1956. She graduated from Mt. St. Joseph Academy in 1950. She attended Emanuel College in Boston. She graduated from Boston Children's Hospital School of Nursing RN in 1954. She was a Navy Nurse (LTJG) for two years stationed in Portsmouth VA. She was an RN at Samuel Dixon State Hospital, South Mountain PA from 1958-1965. She was an RN at Waynesboro PA Hospital from 1978-1992. Carol was a member of St Rita’s Catholic Church of Blue Ridge Summit, PA. She was an avid reader, enjoyed travel, (especially her 3 trips to Ireland), Sci Fi, horror movies, collecting figurines (precious moments, Angels, porcelain dolls and stamps). She is survived by children, Vicki Gail Sipes and husband Rodney, Michael Dale Harbaugh, and Janine Carol Summers and husband Gary, Grandson, Shane Michael Summers, Step Grandson, Brandon Sipes, brothers Carleton Johnson and wife Linda of West Roxbury MA and John Johansson and wife Vivianne of Cork, Ireland, Sister in Law Carol Ann Schorn and husband Martin, Brother in Law Gary Harbaugh and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at J.L. Davis Funeral Home 12525 Bradbury Ave. Smithsburg, MD, on Sunday evening January 5, 2020 from 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial service will be held on Monday January 6, 2020 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church 13219 Monterey Ln. Blue Ridge Summit, PA, at 11am with Rev. Peter DiTomasso officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Cascade, MD, with military honors provided by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 Honor Guard.
