Argie Lee Harris, 85, formerly of Smithsburg and Hagerstown, MD, died Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Hospice of the Panhandle in her recent hometown of Kearneysville, WV, after a second brain aneurysm in December 2019.
Born in Sneedville, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Charles Lewis Harris and Bobbie Mae Chandler (better known as Charlie and Bobbie Harris).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Otis Harris, in 1972, as well as her sister Shirley Williams, her brother Jackie Harris, her grandsons “Little” Donnie Harris and Jason Kersh, and her daughter Darlene Harris Bolden.
She is survived by two siblings Ronnie Harris and Barbara Torbett of Knoxville, Tennessee and her six children: Kenneth Harris (and Wife Karla) of Falling Waters, WV; Donald Harris (and Wife Tena) of Hagerstown; Charles David Harris of Morristown, Tennessee; Susan Harris Fraker (and Husband Del) of McConnellsburg, PA; Deborah Harris (and Lover Lee Weichert) of Kearneysville, WV; and Glenda Harris Mauk (and Husband Benny) of Inwood, WV. She was also the proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren (Angie, Donnie, Darrin, Daniel, Chuckie, Jason, Jimmie Curt Jr., Josh, and Karrah) and 13 great-grandchildren (Tyler, Zachary, Lydia, Dresden, Clarissa, Katelynn, Kristen, Christopher, Sierra, Dakota, Rebecca, Allie and Easton), two cats named “Smokey and The Bandit,” and one Sock-Monkey “Baby.”
A 1953 graduate of Hancock High School in Sneedville, Tennessee, she was valedictorian of her class.
Argie was a blocker at Maryland Ribbon Company in Hagerstown for over 20 years. After her first brain aneurysm in 2000, she became a resident of Potomac Towers in Hagerstown, where she volunteered as their daily exercise coach and weekly blood-pressure-tracker for 12 years. She also attended Red Hat Club functions there.
She was a member of her son Pastor Ken Harris’ church, New Life Christian Ministries in Hagerstown, beloved by the congregation as their “Momma Harris” too.
The family will receive friends Friday 3/20/2020 from 6 to 8 pm at the J.L. Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg.
Services will be Saturday 3/21/2020 at 11:00AM at New Life Christian Ministries (12031 Hopewell Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740). Pastor Ken Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Argie Harris’ honor to Hospice of the Panhandle (330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430) or Panhandle Home Health (208 Old Mill Road, Martinsburg, WV 25401).
