David Edward McCormick

David Edward McCormick, 68, passed away Thursday October 7, 2021. Born in Rochester, NY on December 9, 1952 of the late Edward and Arline Weller McCormick. He is proceeded in death by his older sister Bonnie Sluman. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kendra Ann McCormick, son Ryan Howard Edward McCormick, and daughter, Katherine Ann McCormick. Also survived by younger brother, Mark McCormick (Kathy), niece Mallory McAllister (Jesse), and nephew Jason McCormick (Kirstie). A graduate of Greece Arcadia High School (Rochester, NY) in 1971 and Ashland University (Ashland, OH) in 1976, were he was a collegiate wrestler. Post-graduation he was employed as an educator and then worked for Xerox, IBM in accounting. In 1983 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and went to CORPS school at Naval Station Great Lakes (Great Lakes, MI). He continued training as a field medical corpsman at Camp Lejeune, NC with the U.S. Marines. He was transferred to Bethesda Naval Hospital (MD) where he got further specialty training before heading to Point Loma (San Diego, CA) where he worked research with special operations. In 1986 he was medically discharged and moved to Hollywood, FL where he became the administrative secretary to the chief of psychology at the Miami VA Hospital. After several years in FL the family moved to Smithsburg, MD on a small farm where David was able to retire and enjoy his days taking care of a menagerie of livestock and pets. He thoroughly enjoyed spending countless hours watching baby animals play and grow up. In spare time, he volunteered as a church usher, Boy Scout Troop Leader, 4-H leader, high school track official, and other various roles lending a hand. Services will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 11:00am at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Smithsburg, MD, with Pastor Mary Ricketts officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8pm at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, MD.
