We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved brother, uncle, great
uncle, and friend, Donald (Don) Edward Smith from Hagerstown, MD passed away
on Friday, October 1, 2021 at age 82. He passed suddenly and we will miss
him greatly. Don was a U.S. Army veteran. He served from 1962 to 1982 and
was a Bandsperson in the U.S. Army Field Band. He was an expert clarinet
player and traveled extensively with the Army Band. He was a devoted family
man. Upon leaving the Army he returned home to Hagerstown, MD to care for
his mother for many years.
Don, born in 1939, came from a humble farming family in Hagerstown, MD. His
mother Edna M. was a homemaker and father Earl M. Smith worked for the
Blueridge Transportation company.
Don was a very kind, spiritual and social man who enjoyed the company of
many friends and family. He liked sharing stories and meeting up with
people. Don was a member of the local chapter of the Ali Ghan Temple
(Shriners). He would spend time at the local diner, the Shrine club and
other places around town talking with everyone. Through the years he enjoyed
church, music, golfing, the local Hagerstown Suns team, and especially
spending time with his friends and family.
Our hearts are heavy; however, we will remember all the good times and
cherished stories he shared with us. We will always keep him alive in our
memories. He is survived by his brother, Nevin Smith; 2 nieces; 4 nephews; 1
great niece; and 3 great nephews. He was predeceased in death by his father
Earl Smith; mother Edna Smith; brother, Thomas Smith; and brother Arthur
Smith.
We will always love you!
