James Clifton "Jim" Manuel

James C. “Jim” Manuel, 91, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on November 15, 2021, at Doey’s House. Born on August 11, 1930, in Millville, WV, he was the son of the late James Mason Manuel and Stella Virginia (LaRue) Manuel. He attended school in Harpers Ferry, WV. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving four years (1948-1952) in the United States Army. He was employed by M.P. Moller Inc. for 38 years until he retired in 1992. He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church of Chewsville, MD, Eagles Club Inc. of Waynesboro, PA, American Legion Post 42 of Hagerstown, and the Elks Lodge #378 of Hagerstown. During early years, he enjoyed playing baseball, golfing, hunting (especially with his grandson), traveling and dancing. Jim is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jaqueline J. (Mullendore) Manuel whom he married on September 5, 1953, one daughter, Marilyn V. Smith of Hagerstown, one very special grandson, Chris A. Smith and wife April of Hagerstown, two adoring great-grandchildren, Hunter and Addison Smith of Hagerstown and four nephews, Troy and Jason Breeden and Dale and Dennis Manuel. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin of Harpers Ferry, WV, and Morris of Charles Town, WV, two sisters, Edith Buford of Ranson, WV, and Margaret Breeden of Charles Town, WV, and one nephew, Todd Davidson of Ranson, WV. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 22, 2021, at 2:00pm at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, MD, with Rev. John W. Schildt officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
