Norbert Lee "Mike" Young

Norbert "MIKE" Lee Young, 94, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on February 5, 2020 at his home, with his wife Joyce Young of 22 years by his side. He was born on February 10, 1925 in Cincinnati, OH and was the only child of the late Norbert and Edith Young. Mike enlisted in the Navy in July of 1943, fresh out of high school. He proudly served in Normandy on "D" Day and served on the LST133, that was fired on by German aircraft. He was honorably discharged in July of 1945, due to the wounds he sustained during his service. He was the recipient of TWO Purple Hearts and was very proud of his service to his country, and, he enjoyed recounting his experiences to others. Mike was preceded in death by two of his sons David and Michael Young. In addition to his wife Joyce, he is survived by his daughter Bonnie Leith and her husband Bill of Apollo Beach, his son Robert Young and his wife Dianne of Silver Spring, MD, his stepson Kenny Davidson and his life partner Dana Weddle of Hagerstown, MD. Mike also has 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren that he loved dearly. He will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery. However, there will be no public funeral services.
