Charles Eugene "Buddy" Blake, Sr.

Charles E. “Buddy” Blake, Sr., 76, of Smithsburg, MD, passed away Friday, July 5, 2019 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD. Born Friday, September 11, 1942 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Teathian A. Blake and Mildred I (Gish) Blake. He was a graduate of Smithsburg High School class of 1960. He was a life member of Smithsburg Community Volunteer Fire Company #7 for over 45 years serving as past president, treasure, lieutenant and Chauffeur. He was a charter and life member of the Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services Company #79. Buddy was also a member of Elks Lodge #378 of Hagerstown serving as a lecturing knight, a member of South Mountain Rod and Gun Club of Smithsburg, Sons of the American Legion Post #211 of Funkstown and the Washington County Fire Police. He was a member of Christ Reformed United Church of Christ in Cavetown, MD, where he served as an elder. Buddy retired from Roadway Trucking of Hagerstown in 2000 after 25 years of service. He was a retired member of teamsters local 992. Buddy is survived by his wife of 47 years, Susan E. (Smith) Blake whom he married December 24, 1971, sons, Charles Blake, Jr. and wife Meghan and Richard Blake and wife Sharon, daughters, Brenda Cowan and Linda Callahan, brother, Teathian “Sonny” Blake, sisters, Dolly, Joan and Mildred “Teenie”, grandchildren, Kirsten, Hunter, Jarrett, Melissa, Crystal, Jonathan, Tawni and Kayla and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Betty, Margaret, Jackie and Joyce. Services will be held Thursday, July 11, 2019 at 11:00am at Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, Cavetown, MD, with Rev. Kenneth D. Fuller officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, MD. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 10, 2019 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at J.L.
