David Charles Martin

David Charles Martin, 89, of Smithsburg, MD, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Hospice of Washington County, Doey’s House, of Hagerstown, MD. Born Wednesday, May 15, 1929 near Cearfoss, MD, he was the son of the late John H. Martin and Luella Mae (Coss) Martin. He was a member of Maranatha Brethren Church of Hagerstown. He was owner and operator of Dave’s Wholesale Produce for over 40 years. He enjoyed yard work and gardening. David is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy M. (Fritz) Martin whom he married August 20, 1949, son, Terry L. Martin and wife Gail, daughter, Sharon G. Fay and husband Gary, grandsons who he loved dearly, Travis M. Fay and wife Megan, Zachary D. Fay and wife Jami and Adam C. Fay and wife Abbie, great-grandchildren, Chloe Fay, Jake Fay, Eliana Fay and Everett Fay, sisters, Elva C. Petre, Lois C. Bates and Naomi C. Strite and numerous nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by granddaughter, Lindsay A. Fay, sister, Martha C. Halteman and brother, Daniel E. Martin. Services will be held Monday, March 11, 2019 at 11:00am at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, MD, with Pastor John Miller officiating. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 10, 2019 from 3:00pm – 5:00pm and Monday, March 11, 2019 from 10:00am – 11:00am at the funeral home.
