Dorothy May (Swanson) Shields

Dorothy May Swanson Shields, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 9, 2018, at Williamsport Retirement Village. Dorothy was born on June 14, 1928, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania to Andrew and Gertrude Swanson. Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at 4 p.m., at the Martinsburg Seventh-day Adventist Church in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Dorothy married Roy Howard Shields on June 2, 1947. They raised six children—five daughters and one son. Dorothy and Roy enjoyed spending time with family. Dorothy attended the Greensburg Seventh-day Adventist Church for more than 50 years, where she taught children’s Sabbath School classes, led out in Vacation Bible School, and was Social Committee Leader. As a dedicated member of her church, she was passionate about helping children know Jesus. Her hobbies included baking, gardening (especially flowers), and she was an avid animal lover. Dorothy and Roy moved to Martinsburg, West Virginia, in 2006, to be closer to their children. Dorothy is survived by her beloved husband, Roy, of 71 years; daughters, Linda (Willy), Sondra, Cindy (Thomas), Leslie (Rick), Kimberley (Duane), and son, Roy Allen (Bonita); seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. We will miss our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and look forward to seeing her again at the resurrection when Christ returns to take His children home. Arrangements were made by J.L.
