Gary G. Hammond, 75, of Smithsburg, MD, passed away Friday, August 3, 2018.
Born Monday, August 17, 1942 in Sharpsburg, MD, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (Poffenberger) Hammond.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dolores Irene (Martin) Hammond, January 25, 2005.
He was a graduate of Boonsboro High School, class of 1960.
He was a member of the Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown, Fraternal Order of Eagles of Waynesboro, Clopper-Michael Sons of The American Legion Post #10 of Boonsboro and the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing.
Gary was a mechanic all his life, working in several automotive shops in the surrounding area. He retired from Buchanan Auto Park of Rouzerville, PA.
He was a faithful supporter of the Smithsburg Little Sluggers for over 35 years.
Gary is survived by sons, Brian Hammond and wife Karen and Shawn Hammond and fiancé Rustie Hartley, step-sons, Earl Gift and wife Diana and Randy Gift and companion Fran, his companion for many years, Ramona Deener, brother, Arthur Hammond, grandchildren, Brandt Hammond, Brennan Hammond, Allie Hammond and Chessie Hammond, sister-in-law’s, Shirley Clopper and husband Ernie and Jane Kerns, brother-in-law, Ronnie Martin and wife Betsy and many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Barbara Hammond and one brother-in-law, Gene Martin.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2018 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, MD. Doors will open at 9am for the convenience of the public.
Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Gary Hammond to, Smithsburg Little Sluggers, P.O. Box 291 Smithsburg, MD, 21783.
