Gerald James Brown, 88, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2019, at his home. Born Thursday, January 1, 1931 in Garfield Maryland, he was the son of the late Stanley R. Brown and the late Gladys (Brown) Smetzer. Gerald graduated Valedictorian of Smithsburg High School in 1949. He was employed with Pangborn Corporation as the foremen of the pattern shop. He was a lifetime member of Germantown Church of God where he served on numerous committees and taught Sunday school classes for many years. Gerald enjoyed serving God, Spending time with family, Wood working, Hunting deer and mushrooms, spending time outside landscaping, raising blue berries, puzzles and eating out. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Jean (Pryor) Brown; One Daughter, Linda Jean Renn of New Castle, NC; Two Sons, Gerald James Brown Jr. of Hagerstown MD and Eddie Allan Brown of Smithsburg, MD. Two Sisters, May (Brown) Wolfe of Smithsburg MD, Gladys (Smetzer) Nance of Garfield MD; One Brother, John E. Smetzer of Garfield MD.; Five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Stanley R. Brown, Ray E. Brown, Richard E Brown and 2 great-grandchildren The family will receive friends at the J L Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave. Smithsburg, MD, on Tuesday, October 29, from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held at the Germantown Church of God in Cascade MD, on Wednesday, October 30 at 11 am with Pastor Mark Hoslar officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.
