Howard Eugene Brandenburg

Mr. Howard Eugene Brandenburg, 83, of Wolfsville, Md., went home to be with the Lord on April 21, 2018 in Hagerstown, Md. He was the loving husband of Betty M. Brandenburg for 58 years. Born May 18, 1934 in Ringgold, Md., he was the son of the late Evelyn Hays Brandenburg and the late Roscoe H. Brandenburg. He graduated from Smithsburg High School in 1952, and later from Hagerstown Business College. From 1955 to 1960, Howard served in the Army and then in the Army Reserves. On September 6, 1959, he married Betty M. Martin, daughter of the late Edgar B. and Marjorie Delauter Martin. Howard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved getting the family together for special celebrations or just to spend time together. He also loved the extended family visiting. Howard worked as a bookkeeper for Gladhill Furniture Co. for 36 years, until he retired in 1999. Prior to Gladhill, he worked at Gray Concrete Co., J.C. Penney, and L.Z. Derr Store. He was an active member of Salem United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Betty; sister, Mildred Keadle; two sons, David Brandenburg and wife Susan; and Stephen Brandenburg and wife ChristyBeth; and six grandchildren, Katy Brandenburg, Jonathan Brandenburg, Ellen Brandenburg, Grant Brandenburg, Elaine Brandenburg, and Ryan East. The family would like to thank the many people who touched Howard’s life, including the staff at Williamsport Retirement Village nursing home and Meritus Medical Center, as well as those who called, wrote, and visited, especially during these last, most difficult years. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave, Smithsburg, Maryland, 21783. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 26, at Salem United Methodist Church, 12477 Wolfsville Road, Myersville, MD 21773. Pastors Randall S. Reid and Robert E. Snyder, will be officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salem UMC at the above address.
