James Haddock, Sr. Obituary

James Wesley Haddock Sr., 92, passed away Monday, September 16, 2019, at his home. Born on October 13, 1926, in Connellsville, PA, he was the son of the late Harold C. and Mabel F. Wright Haddock. James was devoted to his family and is survived by the love of his life, his wife of over 64 years, June C. Williams Haddock. Their five children: Belinda L. Thompson and husband Charles, of Hagerstown, James W. Haddock Jr. and wife Virginia (Ginny), of Martinsburg, WV, Mark A. Haddock and wife Cherie, of Hagerstown, Audra Haddock Martenot of Hagerstown, Rebecca J. (Becki) Heise and husband John, of Hagerstown. He also has 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his grandson Eric Thompson, son-in-law James Martenot, brothers William Gray Sr., Allen (Zeke) Haddock and wife Louise, and sister Audrey Soukup and husband Joe. James graduated from Hagerstown High School. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII, one of his fondest memories was witnessing the V Day celebrations on a freighter in New York Harbor. James also served in the Army in an Anti Aircraft Unit. He was one of the first students to attend Hagerstown Community College and was acknowledged during HCC’s 70th Anniversary Gala at Fountain Head Country Club in 2016. He and his wife owned J.W. Haddock / Haddock Topsoil, a Hagerstown business for over 65 years. He enjoyed boating and fishing on the river at the Potomac Fish & Game Club where he was a lifetime member. He was a charter member of the Washington County Maryland Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America and he was a founding member of the Funkstown Rod & Gun Club. Burial at family convenience.
