John Frederick Huff, Jr.

John Frederick Huff, Jr., 90, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Sterling Care South Mountain, “Reeders”, of Boonsboro, MD. Born Monday, February 27, 1928 in Leitersburg, MD, he was the son of the late John Frederick Huff, Sr. and Catherine (Shank) Huff. He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School, class of 1945. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Navy aboard the USS Little Rock from 1945 to 1947. He retired in 1989 from CSX Railroad after 44 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul’s Free Lutheran Church of Leitersburg, a life member of Fairview Sportsman where he served as a past president, life member of South Mountain Rod and Gun Club of Smithsburg, life member of North American Rod and Gun Club of Hagerstown, member of Waynesboro Fish and Game Club, member of the VFW post 1936 of Hagerstown, member of Clear Spring American Legion post 222, member of Potomac Valley Fly Fishers and past member of Elks Lodge 378 of Hagerstown. John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bonita (Hartle) Huff whom he married September 4, 1954, son, John Frederick Huff III, grandson, John Frederick Huff IV, sister, June Toms and husband Glenn, nieces, Kay McCall and husband Tom and Lisa O’Neill and husband Kevin, nephews, Michael Kipe and wife Kris, Darryl Toms and wife Cheryl and Gregory Toms and wife Sharon and many great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 12:00pm at St. Paul’s Free Lutheran Church, Leitersburg, MD, with Pastor Terry Culler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 of Hagerstown. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of John Huff, Jr. to St. Paul’s Free Lutheran Church, 21513 Leitersburg Smithsburg Rd. Hagerstown, MD, 21742.
