Joseph "Jay" Preston Calhoun

Joseph P. “Jay” Calhoun, On Friday, October 5, 2018, Jay Calhoun went home to be with the Lord. He was born on September 7, 1970 in Bethesda, Maryland, the oldest son of Richard P. and Karen J. Dumond Calhoun. Jay graduated from Linganore High School in 1988 and was employed by Bowen Electrical Services, Inc. Jay was well known for his love of the outdoors & camping, his passion for music, and his exceptional, creative cooking. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family and friends, his ready smile, compassionate spirit, and his kind, loving heart. Jay is survived by his parents Richard & Gail Calhoun; siblings Tammy (Brian) Stueve, Dean Calhoun, Shaun (Allie) Calhoun, Kristin (Mat) Conway, and Aaron (Kari) Calhoun; children Sean Reel, Nikki Reel and Jeremy Shaffer; grandson Emmitt Sigler; grandparents Robert and Doris Maze; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is also survived by his “family by choice” Margaret Ford, Steve Ford and Dawn Garrett; and best friends Chuck Rice and Sonya Reel. Jay was preceded in death by his mother Karen J. Dumond Calhoun and son Justin Sigler. A celebration of Jay’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 16th at 6:00 in the evening at Smithsburg Valley Baptist Church, 12911 Bikle Road, Smithsburg, MD 21783. His family will receive visitors at the church beginning at 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted (gofundme.com). Arrangements were made by J.L.
