Letty "Lea" (Thomas) Kersting

Lea Kersting, 88, of Chewsville, MD, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019 at her home. Born Thursday, July 24, 1930 in St. Louis, MO, she was the only child of the late Merritt Moore Thomas and Letty (Fulton) Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William Joseph Kersting and niece, Deborah Bartolo of NY. She is survived by daughter, Eileen M. Almind and husband Daniel and their son Brett all of Effort, PA, and son Eric T. Kersting and wife Kimberly of Boonsboro, MD and their children Sarah and Thomas. She also leaves behind her beloved cats. Lea lived on the west coast, Illinois and New Jersey before moving to Hagerstown with Mack Truck in 1961. She graduated from Douglas College and Rutgers University. She worked ten years for Weightwatchers Inc. and volunteered part time at the Washington County Library, Smithsburg. She enjoyed participating with the Knitting Ministry of St. John’s Episcopal Church, and especially loved animals, reading, music and learning in general. Lea was a huge fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Redskins. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 7, 2019 at 1:00pm at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, Smithsburg, MD, with Rev. Sandra Kline-Mortimer officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Lea Kersting to The Humane Society of Washington County, 13011 Maugansville Rd.
