Margaret "Margie" Smith Obituary

Margaret “Margie” Catherine Smith, age 76, received her heavenly crown as she passed away on March 2, 2019 surrounded by her family at Greenfield Senior Living Center in Hagerstown, Maryland. Born December 8, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Harry G. Rinehart Sr. and Rachael C. Blickenstaff Rinehart. She was a 1960 graduate of Smithsburg High School. Margie was a 58 year member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Chewsville where she faithfully served her Lord and Savior. She was a member of the “Women at the Well”, served as a youth leader in the 1980’s, a Sunday School teacher, and was a faithful volunteer for countless years with Vacation Bible School. Margie had a love of birds and enjoyed keeping multiple feeders filled around her house. She enjoyed listening to all kinds of music and dancing, especially whenever Elvis Presley was on. She will be remembered for her infectious smile and laughter and would lite up the room wherever she went. Margie never worked outside the home but was a meticulous homemaker who took pride in keeping her house “a home.” She was an excellent cook who contributed for decades with the ladies at church and the Chewsville Lions Club. Her “work” was providing loving daycare for over 40 years to dozens of young children. Margie faithfully cared for multiple siblings and was like a second mother to all “her kids.” She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Kellar Smith, sisters Dorothy “Dot” Hammer and brothers Charles “Buddy” Rinehart, Sr., Harry “Wilkie” Rinehart, Jr. and John Murray Rinehart. She is survived by son, Timothy George and wife, Tammy, of Smithsburg, daughter, Tina Louise Bowers, of Gainesville, Virginia, daughter, Donna Catherine Johnson and husband, Mike, of Hagerstown, and son Brian Kellar and wife, Amy, of Smithsburg. Her legacy also will remain in her 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren who adored their “Maw Maw and Nanny.” Along with sisters, Sally Lynn and Rachel Dayhoff both of Smithsburg, Rose Pebble of Quincy, PA. and Mary Ridenour of Hagerstown. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5pm-9pm at J. L. Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg, Maryland. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday March 6, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church in Chewsville, Maryland with Pastor Jim Johnson and Rev. John W. Schildt officiating. The Internment to follow at Rosehill Cemetery in Hagerstown. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Margie’s memory to Bethel United Methodist Church 21006 Twin Springs Drive, Smithsburg, Maryland 21783 or Hospice of Washington County 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland 21742.
