Marvin E. Hatfield, 89, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Monday, April 30, 2018, at his home.
Born Thursday, August 9, 1928 near Hagerstown, MD, in Fiddlersburg, he was the son of the late Samuel Ellsworth Hatfield and Emma Gustia (Rodgers) Hatfield.
Marvin married Evelyn (Kline) Hatfield on January 9, 1949 in Funkstown, MD. She was the love of his life.
Marvin worked in the construction business most of his life, owning and operating his own business for over 40 years, The Marvin E. Hatfield Construction Company. He built three homes for his family from the ground up. He was multi-talented including carpentry and restoring antique cars.
His passion in life was his family. He had a beautiful sense of humor and a heart of gold. He touched many lives and his passing will break many hearts.
He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Wolfsville, MD, life member of the North American Rod and Gun Club of Hagerstown, MD, former member of Eagles Inc of Waynesboro, The Redmen Tribe, West Virginia Society Club, Fraternal Order of Police, Hagerstown Coin Club, Morris Frock Post 42 and Sons of the American Legion.
Marvin is survived by son, Kevin Hatfield of Smithsburg, MD, daughter, Cheryl Hatfield Reeder and his favorite son-in-law Dennis Reeder of Clear Spring, MD, grandson, Brian Reeder of Clear Spring, MD, granddaughter, Demi Reeder Deener and husband Timothy of Hagerstown, MD, special friends, Myrtle Canfield and Albert Brown both of Hagerstown, MD, and many nieces and nephews.
Marvin was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Kline Hatfield, son, Deroyl Marvin Hatfield, brothers, Kenneth Hatfield and Herman Hatfield, sisters, Louise Stottlemyer, Hazel Thomas, Nellie Henson, Margaret Powell, Alice Price and Madeline Hayes.
Services will be held Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 11:00am at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Wolfsville, MD, with Pastor David Howell officiating. Burial will be in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 6-8pm at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Marvin Hatfield to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 12704 Wolfsville Rd. Smithsburg, MD, 21783.
