Mary Ellen Shafer

Mary Ellen Shafer, 83, of Mapleville Rd. Boonsboro, MD, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Hospice of Washington County Doey’s House. She was born Monday, September 2, 1935 in Pennsylvania. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her first husband, Oscar Deshong and her second husband, Staley Shafer. She cleaned homes for a living and was a homemaker. She attended Mt. Zion Mennonite Church of Boonsboro. Mary Ellen is survived by daughter, Karen Stanley and husband Terry, sons, William Deshong and wife Pam and Michael Deshong, grandchildren, Chris Stanley and wife Amanda and Jason Stanley and wife Shanna, great-grandchildren, Madison, Kaitlyn, Carson, Landon, Jackson and soon to be Sophia and brothers, Ken and Larry. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Strait and Colonel Keefer. There will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held Monday, September 24, 2018 at 2:00pm at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, MD, with Pastor Jonathan D. Laye officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2pm, one hour prior to the service.
