Mildred Viola (Willard) Hays

Mildred V. Hays, 104, of Foxville, MD, passed away Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018 at Williamsport Retirement Village, and got to spend Easter evening with her Lord and Savior. Born April 28, 1913 in Foxville, she was the daughter of the late Ora Richardson Willard and Bertha Rae (Toms) Willard. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Hays November 10, 1949. She attended Foxville and Smithsburg Schools. Mildred was a charter member of Mt. Pleasant Church of God, Smithsburg, MD, and a former member of the Sunshine Leisure Club. She retired from Thurmont Shoe Factory. She was an avid world traveler. Mildred is survived by daughters, Jane Draper, Pauline McAfee and husband James, Dorothy McAfee and husband Robert, Helen Sharpe, Virginia O’Mara, Ruth Rhoderick and Alma Hays and husband John, sons, Robert Hays, George “Leon” Hays and Ora Hays and wife Susan, sisters, Bernice Harne and Audrey Wright, brother, Robert Willard, twenty-six grandchildren, forty-two great grandchildren, thirty great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Harne, Catherine Lucas, Evelyn Barlup and Mary Harrison, brothers, Charles Willard and John Willard, son-in-law’s, Zack Draper, Winstead Sharpe, Richard O’Mara and Bruce Rhoderick and daughter-in-law’s, Deloris Hays and Nancy Hays. Services will be held Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11:00am at Mt. Pleasant Church of God, Smithsburg, MD, with Rev. A. Paul Harne officiating. Burial will be in Garfield United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8pm at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, MD. The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice of Washington County and Williamsport Retirement Village for the excellent care given to Mildred.
