Paul A. “Bim” Hessong, 89, of Wolfsville Road Smithsburg, MD, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Chambersburg Hospital. Born Tuesday, August 6, 1929 near Smithsburg, MD, he was the son of the late James Ellsworth Hessong and Sadie E. (Brandenburg) Hessong. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years on January 30, 2018, Janet R. (Gift) Hessong, whom he married May 12, 1955. He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Wolfsville and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Chauffeurs Warehouseman and Helpers. He was formerly employed by Hall’s Transportation Company and was a farmer. He participated for many years in the Smithsburg Steam and Craft Show and the Thurmont Community Show. Paul is survived by three sons, Ricky L. Hessong and wife Patty, Sam W. Hessong and wife Ann and Arthur G. Hessong and wife Cathy, two grandchildren, Jacob Hessong and Ashleigh Dennison and husband Ryan and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Arthur and Robert who were killed in action during WWII, Joseph, James, John “Tom”, George, Parker and Charles Hessong and sisters, Ruby Hamilton, Naomi Hessong and Ruth Draper. Services will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 at 11:00am at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Wolfsville, MD, with Pastor Karen Grossnickle officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
