Richard David Smith, Jr., 72, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Julia Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Hagerstown. Born Saturday, March 29, 1947 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Richard D. Smith, Sr. and Nervy (Bowman) Smith Stover. He attended Boonsboro High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Halfway Manor in 2010. Richard is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sharon E. (Kemp) Smith whom he married November 8, 1974, daughters, Alicia Carter and husband Jerry and Melissa Smith, stepchildren, Jackie Sprecher, Berry L. Chaney, Jr., Kheli Chaney and Donald Chaney, brothers, Roy L. Smith and wife Gail and Larry Smith and wife Betty, sisters, Shirley Smith, Linda Martz and husband Larry and Judy Brumbaugh and husband Joe, six grandchildren, ten and a half great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Jane Stevenson. Services and burial will be private. Arrangements were made by J.L.
