Susan Patricia "Pat" Gardenhour

Susan Patricia “Pat” Gardenhour, 83, of Smithsburg, MD, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Meritus Medical Center of Hagerstown, MD. Born Tuesday, February 12, 1935 in China Grove, NC, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Hazel (Sloop) Forbes. She was a graduate of China Grove High School and attended Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, NC. Pat was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Smithsburg and the Hagerstown Elks Lodge #378 Ladies Auxiliary. Pat is survived by her husband of 63 years, Richard Lee Gardenhour, Sr. whom she married September 4, 1954, daughters, Melanie Davies and Dawn Elizabeth Gardenhour, sons, Richard Lee Gardenhour, Jr. and wife Donna, Patrick Scott Gardenhour and wife Andrea and Joseph Everett Gardenhour and wife Susan, grandchildren, Crystal, Brittney, Kaylee, Jake, Zach, Conner and Carley, brother, Bobby Forbes, three great grandchildren, canine companion, Oprah and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ernest Forbes. Services will be held Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 2:00pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 16 N. Main St. Smithsburg, MD, with Pastor Virgil Cain officiating. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday at the church from 1:00-2:00pm before the service.
