Thomas Luther "Tom" Ferguson

Thomas L. “Tom” Ferguson, 79, of Smithsburg, MD, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born Monday, May 6, 1940 in Smithsburg, MD, he was the son of the late Harry Dutrow Ferguson and Idella Mae (Duffey) Ferguson. He attended Smithsburg High School. Tom was a member of Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren, Hagerstown, MD, where he served as Deacon, Church Board Member and was a member of the Church Disaster Response Team. He served 17 years on the Beaver Creek Cemetery Board and was a member of the Washington County Tractor Pullers Association. He was a huge fan of George Jones and an avid Coke collector. Tom is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Jean (Mellott) “Dot” Ferguson whom he married March 3, 1962, daughters, Tammy Vrooman and husband Frank and Vicki Smoot and husband Andy, son, Mike Ferguson and wife Lisa, sister, Linda Embly, grandchildren, Christian Owens, Keith Griffith, Jr. and wife Abigail, Bobby Miller and wife Jessica, Heather Barnes and husband Beanie, Curt Ferguson and wife Krista and Cara Lowery and husband Kurtis, great-grandchildren, Gracie, Parker, Camie, Raegan, Ella, Bo, Sara and Rylee and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Sam Ferguson. Services will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 10:00am at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, MD, with Pastor Rachel Black officiating. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
