Troy Alan Pickens, 49, of Smithsburg, MD, unexpectedly went to join his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, July 26, 2019. He was born February 18, 1970 in Bath, Maine. He was the son of the late Terry Lee and Judith Ann Pickens of Middletown, MD. He was a graduate of Middletown High School class of 1988. He went on to be a crew chief of a C130 from the 167th Air Tactical National Guard from Martinsburg, WV. He began his career as a bartender in the service industry. He moved on to become an accomplished building inspector and ultimately a Senior Plans Reviewer for local city and county governments.
Troy had many loves besides being a pilot. He enjoyed creating and listening to music. He and his brother, Brian, were and are avid Grateful Dead enthusiasts. He loved camping, fishing and boating with his dad and brother. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Hayli Erdmann, and companion, Joey Watkins-Turner, of Toledo, Ohio, granddaughter, Samiyah Erdmann, of Toledo, Ohio, his brother, Brian Douglas Pickens, of Middletown, MD, his niece Brittani Pickens and companion RJ Santiago, of Hagerstown, MD, his niece Briella Pickens, of Boonsboro, MD, his great niece, Raemi Santiago, of Hagerstown, his stepmother, Marsha Pickens, his beloved aunts and uncles, John and Cindy Pennesi, Tom and Bobbi Boock, Randy and Kathy Pickens, Jay and Ann Pickens, and many other cousins. He will be greatly missed by his longtime love, Jerri Lynn Spahr, of Smithsburg, MD.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Duane and Nina Boock, of Hagerstown, MD, paternal grandfather, Howard Pickens and step-grandmother, Lillian Pickens, and grandmother, Betty Domer, and step-grandfather, Richard Buck Domer.
Services will be held at J.L. Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg, MD, on Saturday, August 10th, at 11am with Kevin Smoot officiating.
