BETTY LOU LEATHER

Betty Lou (Smith) Leather, 84, of Smithsburg, MD, passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Doey's House, Hagerstown, MD, surrounded by loving family.

Born on March 1, 1940 in Cavetown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Merle and Florence (Stevanus) Smith.

Betty Lou attended Smithsburg High School and graduated with the class of 1958 at North Hagerstown High School. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church in Greensburg, MD and was active with the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for many years.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Elwood Leather; Sons, Douglas Leather and wife, Peggy Bushey, and Wayne Leather and wife, Jill; Grandchildren, Meghan Leather (Felix Feng), Lauren Leather, David Leather, and Matthew Leather.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 11 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 13025 Greensburg Rd. Smithsburg, MD 21783 with Reverend Julie Brigham officiating. Interment will follow in Ringgold Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD.

Family will receive friends Monday, January 27, 2025 from 6-8 PM at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, MD.

The family would like to thank Dr. Pooran and the critical care staff at Meritus Hospital and the staff at Doey's House for the wonderful care in Betty Lou's last days.
