Beverly Loriene Hammond Sipes Caldwell, age 75, was born August 20, 1948, in Berkeley Springs, WV and passed away November 8, 2023, in Hagerstown, MD, at home with her family.
She is the daughter of the late John Henry Hammond, Jr., & Hilda Hope Deneen Diehl Hammond, Hancock, MD.
“Jake”, as she was affectionately called by her father, grew up on Woodmont Road raising pheasants and dogs with him on Hammond’s Long Acres, Hancock, MD.
Beverly was a 1966 graduate of Hancock High school, Hancock, MD.
She was a 1968 graduate of Maryland Medical Secretarial School, Hagerstown, MD.
Bev retired after 21 years of service from Roadway Express/Yellow Freight, Hagerstown, in 2005. To enjoy retirement, Bev and her husband headed west to Ruby’s Inn, Bryce Canyon, UT to ride horses and be trail guides. Her previous employers include, Harrisburg Polyclinic Hospital, Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corp (The Sand Mine), Hagerstown Book Binding & Printing (HBP), Hagerstown Junior College, and Washington County Sheriff’s Department (she was personal secretary for Sheriff Ford).
Beverly is survived by her husband Darrell W. Caldwell whom she married 5/5/05; one daughter Karen L. Sipes Gelwicks (Chris) Williamsport, MD; one son, Craig H. Sipes, Greencastle, PA, one stepdaughter Marcy L. Caldwell Simpson (Jason), Sharpsburg, MD, one stepson Mike W. Caldwell (Leslie), Berkeley Springs, WV. Three grandsons; Mason C. Gelwicks (fiancé, Hayley), Trent M. Gelwicks, Jacob H. Sipes, one step-granddaughter Kara A. Simpson, one step-grandson Peyton M. Caldwell. Two nieces and two nephews; Tina & Skip, T.T. & Steve and many great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters and their husbands, Doris L. Davison and James Chester Davison, Berkeley Springs, WV and Mona L. Diehl True and James “Jim” W. True, Sr., Hancock, MD.
It was her wish for memorial donations be made toward funding for diabetic research.
