Bette Jane (Ausherman) Longanecker

Bette Jane Longanecker, 91, of Chewsville, MD, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Somerford House & Place of Hagerstown, MD. Born February 25, 1929 in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Irene (Bachtell) Ausherman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Donald C. Longanecker on July 21, 2005. They were married September 24, 1948. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, Christopher D. Longanecker in 1979, five sisters, Maxine, Nancy, Isabell, Jean and Edna, and three brothers, Gary, Russell and Jack. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a graduate of Hagerstown High School. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church of Chewsville and attended St. Peters Beards Lutheran Church, Old Forge. She was employed by Fairchild Aircraft of Hagerstown and worked as a receptionist for several dentist offices over the years including Dr. Guy Burkett’s office and Dr. Bruce Winter’s office. Bette Jane enjoyed reading and completing crossword puzzels. She is survived by one son, Kirk S. Longanecker of Hagerstown and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held Monday, November 2, 2020 at 11:00am at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, MD, with Pastor Linda Warehime officiating. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery, Hagerstown.
