Mrs. Betty Marjorie Brandenburg, 88, formerly of Wolfsville, Maryland, went home to be with the Lord on April 16, 2021. She was the loving wife of Howard E. Brandenburg for 58 years before his passing in 2018. Born November 13, 1932 in Wolfsville, Betty was the daughter of the late Edgar Byrd Martin and Marjorie Mae (Delauter) Martin. She was a life-long member of Salem United Methodist Church in Wolfsville. Her life was one of dedication to her Lord, her family, and to her church family at Salem. She loved getting everyone together for special celebrations, reunions, or to just spend time with one another.
Betty worked as a proofreader for Doubleday Publishing Co. in her early years. She later loved being a dedicated full-time homemaker, caring for her family as well as for her mother who the couple had taken into their home shortly after the passing of Betty’s father. Betty enjoyed sewing – making many of her own clothes, curtains, Halloween costumes for her boys, and crocheting, embroidery, cooking, baking (delicious cookies!), reading and gardening/canning.
Betty is survived by her two sons, David E. Brandenburg and wife Susan of Hagerstown, and Stephen C. Brandenburg and wife ChristyBeth of Middletown. Betty also adored all of her grandchildren, Katy Brandenburg, Jonathan Brandenburg & wife Tara, Ellen Brandenburg, Grant Brandenburg, Elaine Brandenburg, and Ryan East. She is also survived by one great granddaughter, Arwen.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Austin V. Martin and Charles S. Martin, and one sister Dorotha V. Nusbaum.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to all the staff at Williamsport Nursing Home for their care and support during this most difficult time, as well as all of those who called, wrote, and visited Betty.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, from 6 to 8 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave, Smithsburg, MD 21783.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, funeral services for close family only will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 22, at Salem United Methodist Church, 12477 Wolfsville Road, Myersville, MD 21773. Pastors Robert E. Snyder and Randall S. Reid and will be officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
