Betty Sanders Obituary

Betty Rae (Devinny) Sanders, 71, of Blue Ridge Summit, PA passed away Sunday, March 22, 2020 at Quincy Nursing Home due to complications of lung cancer. Born August 19, 1948 in Indiana PA, she was the daughter of the late Raymond C. and Betty L. (Dunmire) Devinny. She married her husband Edmond "Junie" Sanders Jr. on March 9, 1968 and had just celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. A 1966 Graduate of Smithsburg High School, Betty worked at the Cascade American Legion Post 239 from 1978 until 2002, when she retired to help care for her grandson Layne Middour. Her "babysitting duties" included swimming, cooking and baking, playing with tractors, visiting local play areas, as well as helping take care of the many local stray cats. Betty was integral in caring for friend Rudy Fordham, a double amputee Veteran. Betty was very dedicated to her mother in law, Irene (Smith) Sanders and was her loving care provider. Traveling to find new and great restaurants and beaches was a favorite of Betty’s. She was often accompanied by her best friend Lois (Fox) Snively, and one of their favorite places was Ocean City MD. Betty also enjoyed spending time with family in the Blairsville, PA area, as well as the Sewaren, NJ area. In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by Daughter Jamie (Landman) Kasdan and husband Josh Kasdan and mother to Mitch, Kyle, Sol, Zack, Ian and Nate Kasdan, Daughter Jessica (Sanders) Middour and husband Joseph Middour, mother of Layne Middour, Sister Cindy (Devinny Fox) Burr and her 2 children; Niece Amy (Fox) Balinski and husband Dan and Nephew Ryan Fox and wife Menky; Sister in law Patricia Henning, Aunts Mary Fisher, Shirley Stiffler, Carol Olechoveski and Alice Conrad, Dunmire uncles Glen, Floyd, Leonard, and Marlin, a special family member Marjorie Cibert, and various cousins, great nieces and grand nephews. Betty’s family wishes to thank the staff of Quincy Nursing Home for the love and care provided to Betty and her family. She was preceded in death by in-laws Edmond and Irene (Smith) Sanders Sr. and various cousins, aunts and uncles, and many dear friends. The family will hold a memorial celebration of life this summer, date to be determined due to health precautions and travel restrictions. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Antietam Humane Society 8513 Lyons Rd. Waynesboro, PA, 17268 or www.antietamhumanesociety.org in Betty’s honor. Arrangements were made by J.L.
