Bonnie Catherine Swope (Gates)

Bonnie Catherine Swope (Gates), 85, of Sabillasville, MD, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at her home, surrounded by loved ones.

Born March 29, 1939, in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Joseph E. "Mike" Gates and Virgina Mae (Watson) Green.

Bonnie was a graduate of Smithsburg Highschool, Class of 1957.

During her working years, Bonnie worked at Newberry's Department Store and Books and Things, in Hagerstown, MD, and The Video Gallery in Smithsburg, MD, up until retirement.

She was an avid seamstress and craft maker.

Bonnie is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Gary E. Swope, whom she married on March 31, 1961.

In addition to her husband, she leaves behind her son, Shane E. Swope and wife Karen, grandchildren, Bailey Hillard and husband Kyle, Daniel Swope and wife Amanda, Christopher Swope and wife Erica, and Gracie Swope and Fiancé Jordon, great-grandchildren, Emory, Huxley, Daniel, and Ellie, and her best friend, Jill Brown.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 11:00 am, at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave, Smithsburg, MD 21783. A Graveside service will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Bonnie to Washington County Hospice.
