CHARLES PORTER Obituary

Charles Richard “Dick” Porter, 77, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Friday, October 13, 2023.

Born July 19, 1946, in Chambersburg PA, he was the son of the late Clarence and Dorothy Porter.

Charles was raised by Albert and Kathleen Staub of Thurmont.

A long-time employee of Claire Frock Co from 1965-1990, Dick and old buddy Ott Wolfe also dedicated many early years as Calvin Sayler’s farm hands. He remained Claire Frock’s building caretaker for years after the company closed.

Once the building was bought, he started driving tractor-trailer until his retirement.

After retirement, he and his wife, Linda, traveled everywhere, especially places that had to do with old time country music.

Work did not end after retirement, as he continued to chauffer his grandchildren and great grandchildren around to sports events and school or out to just get a hot dog. Charles was a huge member of the Thurmont Community. Thurmont was his life. He was a lifetime member of the Thurmont Volunteer Fire Company and the South Mountain Rod and Gun club! He made many lifelong friends doing the things he loved like fishing, bowling, shooting pool, playing cards, and going to Orioles games.

He never missed watching his beloved Cowboys and Orioles play.

Charles is survived by his children, Donna Haines and husband Mark Haines, Kimberly Andrew, stepdaughter, Lisa Cassady, grandchildren, Amber Porter, Gary Wolfe, Chelsea White, Joshua Aubol, Sarah Haines, Matthew Haines, Victoria Haines, Nicole Andrew, Madison Andrew, Samantha Andrew, 10 Great Grandchildren, son in law, Jeffery Aubol, and many more relatives. All who will feel the void Charles left behind.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Porter, daughter, Tammy Aubol, and several siblings.

He will be greatly missed, and as his very close friend, Gene, just said after his passing "Dicks heart was a big as he was."

A celebration of life will be held, Sunday October 29th at 3pm at the Thurmont Activities Building, 123 East Main Street, Thurmont Md, 21788.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Thurmont Md Volunteer Fire Company.
