David B. Wetzel, born on August 13, 1952, in Frederick, Maryland, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, at the Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy, Maryland.
David is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Staub-Wetzel; his daughter, Kristen Wiles, Shannon Thomas (Anthony), Shanda Burmeister (Derek), and Tiffany Staub (Sean); his son, James Staub; and his cherished grandchildren, Randi, Mason, Amiah, Davine, Annabeth, Kayleigh, Aliyah, Alexah, Brayden, Autumn, and Greyson; and many others. He also leaves behind his sisters, Darlene Boyer, Diane Pearson, and Debbie Scott; bonus children, Shawn Wetzel, and Bobbi Jo Hilery; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sterling J. Wetzel, Sr., and Mildred Louise Bagent Wetzel, along with many siblings.
A proud graduate of Frederick High School, David went to then honorably serve his country in the United States Army from 1973-1979.
Known for his simplicity and love of family, David found immense joy in spending time with his loved ones - especially his grandchildren - and was always ready for a cookout filled with laughter and fond memories.
David's passion for sports was evident in his unwavering support for the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees.
In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball in various leagues, creating lasting friendships through the game he loved.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Kline Hospice House or St. Jude's Medical Center in David's Memory.
May David's memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved him.
