DEBORAH MARTENS-PUGH Obituary

Deborah Johana Martens-Pugh, age 62, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024, at her home in Jefferson, Maryland, surrounded by the loving care of her family by her side.

Deborah is survived by her devoted husband, Donnie Pugh Sr.; her two sons, Christopher Wyatt and Donnie Pugh Jr.; her daughter-in-law, Marah Wyatt; and her three beloved granddaughters, Phoenix, Emily, and Kate Wyatt.

Deborah was born on August 8, 1962, in California to parents originally from a region between France and Germany called Alsatia. Deborah was adopted as a young child by the Cook family and relocated to Oklahoma, where she embraced her new family’s blended heritage and their Cherokee roots. Deborah often reflected on the generosity of her Cherokee Grandfather, a quality that she carried with her throughout her life.

At a young age, Deborah moved to Georgia, where she married and was blessed with her first son, Christopher Wyatt.

Her passion for helping others led her to various roles, including working in the silk department of a retail business, serving as a chairside dental assistant, and working in a pediatrician's office and childcare. Her insatiable appetite for learning was evident as she dedicated 15 years to the adult education program at Oglethorpe University.

In 2011, Deborah met Donnie Pugh, and they married, embarking on a new adventure together in Maryland. In her new home, Deborah took a position at the Frederick Memorial Cancer Center, where her compassionate nature allowed her to form deep connections with patients. After three and a half years, she transitioned to a role that allowed her to nurture the next generation as a substitute elementary school teacher in Frederick County, affectionately known to her students as "Mrs. M & M".

Deborah's legacy of kindness, compassion, and unwavering support for others will forever be cherished by all who knew her. As she often said when ending a message, “Love you’s XOXO”

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that please spend quality time with a loved one.
