On Sunday, August 6, 2023, our Savior, Jesus Christ, opened His arms to welcome D. Gaither Dean, Jr., home to eternal life.
Born on July 10, 1943, in Frederick, MD, he was the oldest child of the late Desmond G. Dean, Sr. and Eva B. Dean.
He grew up on a farm in Middletown Valley, MD and was a graduate of Middletown High School and the University of Maryland.
In 1962 he married his loving wife of 60 years, Marie Corson. He worked over 30 years for State Farm Insurance Company, in both Frederick, MD and Bloomington, IL, retiring to reside in the Waynesboro, PA area.
Gaither was involved with the Stephen Ministries, a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Greencastle, PA and sang in the choir. He was an avid Lionel train collector and gardener. Both he and his wife loved spending time visiting and supporting Colonial Williamsburg, VA. Gaither was a loving husband, father, pap-pap and great-grand pap.
In addition to his wife, Gaither is survived by his daughters Desarie Gregory (Mike) and Laura Noffsinger (John); grandchildren Benjamin Gregory (Sadie), Bethany Reuschling (Michael), Michael Rimel (Kelsey), Joseph Rimel and Hannah Magnolia (Joey); great-grandchildren Grant, Dean, Hattie and Clara; sisters Sandi Coblentz and Marcia Gordon; in-laws, Dianne Corson, John Corson (Kris) and Nancy Roberson (Bruce) and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gaither is preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Carl and Elizabeth Corson; brother, Paul M. Dean (Amy), brothers-in-law, Walter Gordon and Carl Corson, Jr.; and sister-in-law Cathleen Corson.
The family will receive friends for visitation 6:00-8:00 pm, Friday, August 18, at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradley Ave., Smithsburg, MD 21783.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, August 19, with visitation prior to the service at 10:00 am, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1186 Jason Dr., Greencastle, PA 17225 and officiated by Pastor Jane Nicholson.
