Mrs. Dorothy Virginia (Wolfe) Burgess, 90, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Fahrney-Keedy, Boonsboro, MD.
Born February 8, 1934, in Wolfsville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Richard A. Wolfe, Sr., and Irene (Maugans) Wolfe.
In addition to her parents, Dororthy was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Stottlemyer and her second husband Eubert H. (Yub) Burgess, to whom she was married to for 55 years. Eubert passed away in 2022.
She is survived by her son, Terry Stottlemyer of Hagerstown, MD, two stepdaughters, Karen Hull and Nancy Harrington of Kansas, sister, June E Kendall of Smithsburg, MD, brother, Richard A. Wolfe, Jr. of Smithsburg MD, Ray V. Wolfe of Sanger, TX, Dennis L. Wolfe of Waynesboro, PA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dorothy graduated from Smithsburg High School with the Class of 1952.
She worked at various jobs, including Waynesboro Knitting Mill and retired from Doubleday in Smithsburg, after serving there for over 30 years.
She was a member of Christ's Reformed Church in Hagerstown, MD.
She enjoyed family get-togethers, bus trips (especially to see Johnny Cash), eating out, and listening to music and dancing at the Cider Press.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 11:00 am at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave, Smithsburg, MD, officiated by Reverend Mary Jane Norville. The family will welcome friends for a visitation the evening prior, February 3, 2025, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Funeral Home.
