Danielle Denise (Kneller) Kretzer

Danielle “Dani” D. Kretzer, age 50, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, surrounded by her family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Her strength, humor, and boundless love carried her through every step of that journey, just as she carried so many others throughout her life.

A proud graduate of Troy High School, Class of 1994, Dani first made her mark as a standout softball pitcher, throwing numerous no-hitters and earning admiration for her fierce determination. She continued her academic and athletic career at St. Bonaventure University, graduating in 1998 with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. While there, she contributed to another softball no-hitter before later shifting her focus to rugby. During her senior year, she helped reestablish the university’s women’s rugby team, an accomplishment that reflected her leadership, grit, and love of team culture.

Dani went on to complete Paralegal Business Litigation studies at the National College of Paralegal Training, beginning her professional career as a paralegal in Atlanta, Georgia. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Eric Kretzer, at a rugby tournament in Savannah while playing for the Atlanta Harlequins. Their connection was instant and enduring.

After moving to Hagerstown, Maryland, Dani helped start the Frederick Women’s Rugby Team in 2004 and soon after married Eric. Her greatest joy came with the birth of her son, Braeden, a role she cherished above all others. She later continued her career with Washington County Public Schools, where her warmth and energy touched countless lives.

Dani was known for her outgoing nature. She could talk to anyone about anything and make them feel like an old friend. She was adventurous and happiest when surrounded by family, whether relaxing at the beach or finding peace in the quiet beauty of Maine. A devoted concert-goer, she was always ready to bring someone along for the music and the memories. She was the best wife, mother, sister, and friend, and her absence leaves a space that can never be filled.

Dani is survived by her husband Eric Kretzer, her son Braeden Kretzer, her stepdaughters Amanda (Nate) Baker, Breanne Kretzer, and Makayla (Russell) Herman, and her grandson Brooks Herman. She is also survived by her sister Heidi (Christopher) Kneller-Brown, her niece Isla, and her nephew Hudson Brown.

She is preceded in death by her father Samuel Kneller, her mother Robin Kneller, and her father-in-law Robert Kretzer.

In keeping with Dani’s wishes, there will be no immediate service. A memorial will be scheduled at a later date so family and friends can gather to celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in her honor.
