David "Dean" Turner Obituary

David A. “Dean” Turner, 93, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2020 at Ravenwood Assisted Living in Hagerstown. Born January 19, 1927 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Hollie Hollingsworth Turner and Minnie Iona (Bowers) Turner. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Geneva Ward (Doyle) Turner, who passed away October 17, 2009. They were married January 10, 1953. He attended Hagerstown Schools. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army Air Force 421st Night Fighter Squadron. He was a member of St. Peters Beards Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, and former member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Smithsburg. He was also a former member of the VFW post 1936 of Hagerstown and American Legion post 211 of Funkstown and a former Scout Master for Troop 14, Smithsburg. He was an avid bowler. He retired from Statton Furniture of Hagerstown. He is survived by two daughters, Deborah A. DeLauter and husband Ron of Woodstock, GA, and Kelly S. Jacobson and husband Matthew of Colorado, one son, David W. Turner of Clear Spring, MD, one brother, John Turner, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jean C. Shank, six sisters and seven brothers. Services will be held Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 11:00am at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, MD, with Pastor Stephanie Steele officiating. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery with military honors provided by the Joint Veterans Council of Washington County and the Marine Corps League of Hagerstown. The family will receive friends from 10-11am, one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of David A.
