Dorothy "Dot" Jean Ferguson, 83, of Smithsburg, MD passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at her home, surrounded by loving family.
Born on July 24, 1941 in Beaver Creek, MD, she was the daughter of the late Virginia (Harshman) and Richard William Mellott.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas Ferguson; Sisters, Katheryn Herridge, Ella Jane Henneberger, Louise Turner; and Brothers, William, John Robert, Charles and Dale Mellott.
Dot graduated from Boonsboro High School, class of 1959.
Dot was formerly employed at Harper & Row Publishing, then later at J.B. Lippincott. Dot was then employed at Homewood at Williamsport, and retired from Brook Lane Health Services.
Dot was a member of Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren, Hagerstown, MD. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed spending time with all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children; Tammy Vrooman (Frank), Vicki Smoot (Andy), and Michael Ferguson (Lisa); six Grandchildren, Christian Owens (Zach), Keith Griffith, Jr. (Jessica), Robert Miller (Jessica), Heather Barnes (Anthony), Curtis Ferguson (Krista) and Cara Lowery (Kurtis); 13 Great Grandchildren, Gracie, Parker, Camie, Raegan, Ella, Bo, Sara, Bailey, Rylee, Ryder, Kylee, Kolter and Klaire; and many Nieces and Nephews.
A funeral service will be held Monday, August 19, 2024 at 10 AM at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave., Smithsburg, MD 21783 with Pastor Gabe Dodd and Pastor Rachel Black officiating. Interment will follow in Beaver Creek Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD.
Family will receive friends Sunday, August 18, 2024 from 2-4 PM at the funeral home.
