Duane Roger Olson

The family of Duane R Olson are saddened to share the news of his passing. We have been comforted by many kind words and prayers.

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” – Revelation 21:4

Duane Roger Olson, 75, passed away peacefully at home on June 11, 2026. Duane was born in Takoma Park, Md., on March 12, 1951. He spent the last 25 years residing in Boonsboro, Md. He married his wife, Janice, on April 11, 1976, in Silver Spring, Md., and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Vuzzuka (Olson); father, Carl William Olson; and sister, Carlene Elizabeth Olson.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Kathryn Olson (Parks); and children, Daniel Ryan Olson (Heidi Olson), Kelly Ann Wendth (Michael Wendth), and Matthew Albert Olson.

He was a proud grandfather of three granddaughters, Anika Sofia Wendth, Piper Grace Olson and Quinn Mackenzie Olson.

He also leaves his brother, Ronald Charles Olson.

Duane worked as a realtor for 25 years and previously operated his own business, J&D Engine House, for 30 years in Gaithersburg, Md. He was a member of the Williamsport Seventh-Day Adventist Church since 1990.

Duane enjoyed reading and collecting books. His collection included biographies, memoirs and historical accounts.

Music was a significant part of Duane’s life.

He was a novice guitar and accordion player. He appreciated a variety of music styles ranging from John Denver’s folk music to Handel’s Messiah.

He often credited his love of books and music to his aunt, Hazel Olson, who was a meaningful figure in his life.

Duane took evening watercolor classes for many years at the Hagerstown Mansion House and enjoyed the art demonstrations as well as visiting with fellow artists.

Duane had many fond memories of crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge with Janice and spending time on Chincoteague and Assateague Islands.

Duane had a heart for animals and cared for many family pets over the years.

A memorial service will be held at the Williamsport Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2026 at 11:00am.
