Durward (Dewey) Allison Benauer, age 91, of Lawenceville passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Meritus Medical Center, MD.
He was born in Nauvoo, PA on September 9, 1932 to Clarence and Erma (Roupp) Benauer.
Dewey was married to Lillian Benauer for 67 years before her passing. He joins her now as well as their infant son, Clarence.
Also, his brothers Merle Benauer and Ivan Finch, son-in-law Gary Winton, and great-granddaughter Jessica Cevette preceded him in death.
He is survived by their children Gerald (Jerry) Benauer of Mt. Carmel, PA; Darlene Benauer of Painted Post, NY; Lisa Winton of Gilbert, SC;
Steven Benauer of Lawrenceville, PA; and Scott Benauer of Taneytown, MD.
Also his grandchildren Jamie Cevette, Michael Cevette, Theresa Freeman, and Ashley Benauer.
His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all loved him dearly.
Dewey was always busy, helping others, earning a living for his family. While employed by Corning Glass Works he worked in melting
at all of the local factories including time at Steuben. Before he retired from Corning he also drove truck, something he always wanted to do.
Then drove for a while after retirement.
He served in the Army during the Korean war overseas in Europe.
Dad cut wood and fence posts, welded repairs and fixed cars, farmed beef and dairy and could be found with the tractor
plowing or haying even late at night after working during the day.
He taught us to be helpful too.
In his later years, Dewey and Lillian spent time visiting their children and retiring to a special plot of land where they spent time watching wildlife.
In memory, donations can be made to the Nelson and Lawrenceville Fire departments.
Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
