Ellen Elizabeth Bowman went to dwell in the house of her heavenly Father on Monday, October 21, 2024. Ellen, who lived in Smithsburg, MD for most of her life, was born in Middlepoint, MD on June 12, 1929, to Ray and Icie Cartee. She was the baby of her family and quit school in the 8th grade to stay home and care for her beloved Momma and Aunt Alice. Ellen worked for a short period of time at Cavetown Canning, Cavetown Shoe and Waynesboro Dress Factory. In 1947 she married the love of her life, Benjamin M. Bowman, and shortly thereafter gave birth to her son Benjamin L. Bowman. Ellen was the sweetest soul you would ever want to meet. She was a good strong Christian woman. Ellen was a hard worker all her life and she was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. Knowing Ellen was a blessing. Noone that knew Ellen ever had a bad thing to say about her. Her calling in life was to take care of others. A job that she more than succeeded at. There are few people in the world that are as selfless as her. Ellen loved her animals. They were her little babies. She spoiled them rotten. Over the years she had many dogs, cats, chickens, parakeets and even pigs. Ellen is survived by her son Benjamin L. Bowman Sr. and wife Wanda C. Bowman, grandson Benjamin L. Bowman Jr. and wife Karen L. Bowman, great granddaughters Lauren L. Bowman and Kaitlyn E. Bowman, niece Rose M. Black and husband Ronnie Black and nephew Larry R. Cartee. Ellen was preceded in death by her father Ray C. Cartee, mother Icie R. Cartee (Blickenstaff), brother Paul Cartee and sister Virginia C. Baer. Ellen was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of God and attended Emmanuel Chapel in Smithsburg, MD. Viewing will be at J.L. Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg, MD on Sunday October 27, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, MD on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow immediately at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church in Smithsburg, MD (all are welcome). It will be hard to say good-bye to such a great woman, but we take comfort in the fact that she was ready to go with her Lord after 95 well lived years. She remained committed in her faith to the end and now she is at home with her Lord and her family. Rest in peace Ellen. We love you and we will miss you.
