Eric Thomas Kersting, 65, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 after a six-year battle with cancer. He had a resolve that couldn’t be matched.
Eric was born on November 1, 1959.
He graduated from Smithsburg High School in 1978, where he was involved in Track & Field.
He went on to have a successful career as a surveyor and lawn care professional. He also worked 9 years at White Tail making snow.
He spent much of his free time camping, hiking, and working on his model train setup. He ran five JFK 50-mile runs and achieved Eagle Scout rank and was assistant scout master for Troop 20 in Boonsboro. A member of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, he frequently hiked the trail and performed maintenance on local portions of it.
He met his wife, Kim, in 1985, and they married on March 15, 1986. Eric and Kim have two children, Sarah and Thomas.
Eric was predeceased by his mother and father, Lea and William Kersting.
He is survived by his wife Kim Kersting, daughter and her husband Sarah Kersting and Brett Thompson, grandson Leo Thompson, son Thomas Kersting, sister and her husband Eileen and Dan Almind, nephew and his wife Brett and Emily Almind.
A funeral service will be held Friday, July 18, 2025 at 11 AM at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave. Smithsburg, MD 21783 with Reverend Brant Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mark's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Lappans, MD.
Family will receive friends one hour prior.
