Eric Drew Webber, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and veteran of the U.S. Navy and Army National Guard, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2021, at the age of 62.
Eric is survived by his wife of 39 years, Cheryl Webber; his children, Derick Webber and Melissa Bellon; his sister, Linda Harbaugh; his brother, Dale Webber; and seven grandchildren.
Eric was born on January 11, 1959, in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania to Bill Webber and Betty Demory. He graduated from Smithsburg High School and then attended technical school for autobody and mechanics. On June 18, 1982, he married the love of his life, Cheryl, a student at Frostburg State University. On March 28, 1980, and March 6, 1985, he welcomed the births of his son and daughter, respectively.
Eric proudly served in the U.S. Navy for five years, during which time he served on the USS Inchon in the 1983 U.S. Invasion of Grenada. After his tour in the U.S. Navy, he enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard, where he served for 23 years, completing a tour in Kosovo, and performing Homeland Security at Letterkenny Army Depot as part of the global war on terrorism. In addition to his retirement from the U.S. Army National Guard, he retired from the City of Hagerstown – Public Works after 20 years, after which he worked part-time at Sword’s Masonry.
Eric was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather whose favorite part of life was laughing, storytelling, and fellowshipping with his family. He enjoyed restoring old cars, target shooting, and antique shopping. He believed in the value of hard work, getting your hands dirty, and serving others. He was a faithful Christian, who shared these values with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of New Beginnings Christian Fellowship Church in Chewsville, MD and Hagerstown First Church of God. Eric will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 13 at J.L. Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg, MD. The funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, September 14 at 1:00 p.m. at the same location; Pastor George Snyder will officiate. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Cascade, MD.
Flowers may be sent to J.L. Davis Funeral Home at 12525 Bradbury Ave, Smithsburg, MD 21783. Donations may be sent to New Beginnings Christian Fellowship Church in Chewsville, MD or Hagerstown First Church of God.
