Frances "Fran" Jane (Cauffman) Smith

Frances "Fran" Jane (Cauffman) Smith, 92, of Smithsburg, MD, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 8, 2026 at Doey's House, Hagerstown, MD.

Born on May 10, 1933 in Mont Alto, PA, she was the daughter of the late J. Harvey Cauffman and Verna Dull Cauffman.

She was a graduate of Quincy High School, class of 1952.

Fran was employed by Doubleday as a Personnel supervisor for 31 years, and retired from the Washington County Commissioners as Benefits Coordinator in 1996.

She is survived by her only son who she loved dearly, Robert "Rob" L. Smith, Jr. and wife, Melissa (Noble) Smith, and numerous Nieces and Nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving Husband of 67 years, Robert L. Smith, Sr.; Sisters, Evelyn Dean, Zelda Ward, Rosalie Pentz; and Brothers, Daniel and Edgar Cauffman.

She was a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, Foxville, MD. She was also a member of Elks Lodge #378 and South Mountain Rod & Gun Club Ladies Auxillary.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 11 AM at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave. Smithsburg, MD 21783 with Pastor Andrew Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Smithsburg Cemetery, Smithsburg, MD.

Family will receive friends one hour prior.
