Franklin Schaller Obituary

Franklin Joseph Schaller, 77, of Smithsburg, MD, passed away peacefully on May 27,2022 at Autumn Lake at Glade Valley, Walkersville, MD. Born November 22, 1944, in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph Enniss Schaller and Frances Elenora Shank Schaller. He graduated from Smithsburg High School in 1962. He was retired from AC&T and Rohr. Previous employers were Fairchild, Pangborn Corp, Landis Tool, and Eastern Products and he was also a newspaper boy. Frank volunteered with Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Co. for 61 years and was a member of Community Rescue for 9 years. Franklin (Frank, Frankie) belonged to the Smithsburg Lions Club, Elks Club, Hagerstown Model Railroad Club, Western Maryland Hagerstown Railway Historical Society, Smithsburg Historical Society, and South Mountain Rod and Gun Club. He was a devout Christian and a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Smithsburg. He also belonged to Washington Square UM Church and St. Paul’s Lutheran in Greensburg. Frank loved trains- collecting them, riding on them and going to train shows. He spent a lot of time at the Sharpsburg train station fixing it up with his buddies so they could show the public their amazing train collections. He was preceded in death by his son, Franklin Joseph Schaller,Jr. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bonnie May Winders Schaller; daughter, Shannon May Smith (Tommy), son, Joel Franklin Schaller (Ryan), grandson, Corey Ryan Snyder, sister, Doris Richardson (Jerry); niece Cheryl Obitts (Don); nephews Bud Ruths (Deb), Ed Ruths (Bobbi), and Lynn Ruths (Sebrina); step-grandson Steven Smith; step-granddaughter Jennifer D’Amato; grand-nephews Steven Richardson, Isaac Ruths, Tanner Ruths, Taylor Ruths; grand-nieces Tiffany Snow, Jennifer McCoy, Alexis Alvarez, and Janessa McCormick. Family will receive friends at the J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave, Smithsburg, MD 21783, from 7 to 9 pm. On Thursday, June 2. Services will be Friday, June 3, at 1 pm. from Trinity Lutheran Church, 15 N Main St., Smithsburg, MD 21783, with Pastor Virgil Cain, Rev. Richard Hembrock and Pastor Julie Brigham officiating. Interment will follow at Smithsburg Cemetery. Reception afterwards at Trinity. Flowers may be sent to J.L. Davis Funeral Home.
