Fred J. O'Neal, 85, of Hagerstown, MD, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 6, 2026.
He was born in Middletown, MD on December 13, 1940 to Fred and Margaret O'Neal. He grew up in Boonsboro, MD.
He was a 1958 graduate of Smithsburg High School. He served in the U.S. Army 87 Airborne Division, the 187 and the 503 Combat Teams. As a young man, he saw much of the far East.
He was employed as an Industrial Engineer at Landis Tool Company for 25 years, Statton Furniture, Comsat, and Waynesboro Design.
He loved working in his yard and was especially fond of his roses. He was a good neighbor, living in the same neighborhood for 56 years. He married his beloved wife, Judy, on July 5, 1964. They loved to travel and always welcomed visitors into their home.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Smithsburg, MD. He was a member of the Morris Frock American Legion, Post 42, Hagerstown BPOE #378. He served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross for many years and was a member of AARP.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Judith (Kendall) O'Neal; Sisters, Patricia Pattison and Myrtle Snow; and Nieces, Nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Brothers, John C. O'Neal, Donald L. O'Neal, and many beloved friends and family.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 2 PM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 51 S. Main St. Smithsburg, MD 21783 with Pastor Al Deal officiating. Interment will follow in Smithsburg Cemetery, Smithsburg, MD.
Family will receive friends one hour prior at the church.
